Chem Alert User Training

Duration:

2 hours

Appropriate for:

ChemAlert General Users - staff and postgraduate students whose main aims are to quickly obtain critical health & safety information on chemical products they use and incorporate the appropriate safety information into their daily tasks.

Chem Alert Group Supervisors - staff responsible for the storage, placarding and labelling of chemical products in accordance with the relevant regulations in an area.  Typically research group supervisors, senior teaching technicians, workshop managers, OHS representatives, or school safety officers will benefit from this course.

Content:

This course will cover legal requirements for chemical use, basic navigation through the application, product searching and product specific reporting, such as MSDS retrieval and label printing.

Learning Outcomes:

As a result of completing this training, participants should be able to:

  • Understand the legal requirements for using chemicals and the importance of maintaining a chemical management system 
  • Effectively search the database to retrieve relevant health and safety information
  • Locate and review product reports and labels
  • Examine reports to choose the most relevant format for use on site
  • Access and utilise the Help System
  • Accurately reflect the location and maximum quantities of each chemical
  • Demonstrate ability by registering stock items
  • Run and review stock reports including Hazardous Substance registers and Dangerous Goods listings
  • Perform risk assessments

This course is “ hands on” with participants completing practical exercises to reinforce knowledge and ensure skills can be applied in the workplace.
