Laser Safety Course
About: |
For staff and students who are required to use high-powered research lasers. This half day course will provide users with an awareness of the specific hazards associated with high-powered laser usage within the University research environment.
It is a requirement under the Radiation Safety Act 1975 that licensed users of laser equipment have attended an appropriate laser safety course and that their supervised users are appropriately trained.
Online Module A webCT laser safety module is availible to staff and students who need to start working with lasers before the next course. Contact Matt Carroll to be enrolled. The online module does not replace this course. |
Scope: |
You will:
- gain an understanding of the safe use of lasers in research
- be able to identify and assess risks in laser areas
- become aware of legislative requirements for the use of lasers
- understand the process of reducing risks in the workplace.
