X-ray Analysis Course
About: |
For academic staff, general staff and post graduate students who are required to use x-ray analytical equipment, both x-ray fluorescence and x-ray diffraction, at UWA. It is a requirement under the Radiation Safety Act 1975 that licensed users of XRA equipment (usually research group leaders) have attended an appropriate XRA safety course and that their supervised users are appropriately trained. |
Scope: |
You will learn:
- Basic physics of x-rays
- Biological effects of x-rays
- Hazards associated with XRA equipment
- Procedures for hazard control
- Engineering measures
- Administrative requirements
- Legal requirements
You will:
- gain an awareness of important x-ray analysis (XRA) safety principles and practices.
- gain a greater awareness of the specific hazards associated with XRA usage within the university research environment.
The course satisfies the training requirements for a XRA (research) license under the Radiation Safety Act 1975.
The course consists of lectures and an in-class open book assessment. A comprehensive set of course notes is provided prior to the course and it is expected that attendees have read the course notes prior to attending. |
