Our role is to develop and assist in the implementation of the UWA safety, health and wellbeing programs in order to minimise the risk of injury, illness and property damage.

We provide consultancy and other services to promote best practice and legislative compliance in all University and related activities.

Workshop purpose and scope

Intended audience:
This workshop is intended for any staff wanting to reduce the stress in their lives. Chronic stress can have long-term impacts on our health and well-being. Psychologists from the UWA counselling service offer their expertise to UWA staff wishing to enhance their stress management techniques.
Workshop description:
This workshop involves a look at the causes of stress, the effects of on-going stress and stress management techniques which are particularly useful to reduce stress. Emphasis is placed on learning healthier ways to manage and cope with stress. Learn to recognise the barriers to implementing relaxation strategies and enlist your strengths to approach stress with a renewed vigour.
Intended outcomes:
At the end of the workshop you will be able to:
  • identify the sources of stress in your life
  • examine the ways you currently manage stressful situations
  • develop stress management techniques to allow you to take charge and promote a healthier relaxed approach to stressful situations
Key activities:
Identify true sources of stress through group discussion and interactive exercises. Improve knowledge of healthy and unhealthy ways to cope with stress while reinforcing your own strengths. Raise awareness of the strategies which help to reduce stress and increase your resistance to stress.


  • Courses are free to UWA staff and affiliates and PhD students, except where a fee is indicated.
  • A cancellation fee may apply for non-attendees.
  • UWA staff and affiliates receive priority access to the sessions. Enrolments will be confirmed after applications have closed.
  • Non-UWA participants are charged $100 per hour, and can attend subject to availability. Staff working in other universities receive a 20 per cent discount.
