Safety, Health and Wellbeing

Online Induction and Training

Our role is to develop and assist in the implementation of the UWA safety, health and wellbeing programs in order to minimise the risk of injury, illness and property damage.

We provide consultancy and other services to promote best practice and legislative compliance in all University and related activities.

The University is committed to providing comprehensive health and safety inductions and training. Local Induction will be organised by the workplace. The staff online induction is hosted by Elmo. Other training modules are largely hosted by the UWA Learning Management System (LMS) which is access controlled by use of your Pheme password (the exception is the Contractor Safety Induction which does not require a Pheme password).

Online Health and Safety Induction for Staff and workplace specific safety inductions
Staff are required to complete the online safety induction and a local workplace safety induction. Other workers and visitors may also be required to complete this induction depending on their activities whilst on University premises.
Online student safety induction
Some students may be required to complete the online student safety induction depending on their activities whilst on University premises.
Online Contractor Safety Induction

Online basic Warden training
This course is for Building and Area Wardens located at the main campus sites. Regional, smaller and tenanted buildings off main campus may have modified procedures. It is designed to provide wardens the skills to successfully conduct a building evacuation but does not replace the formal Warden training and refresher courses which cover more detail and other emergencies. There is an accompanying quiz to complete at the end of the unit.
Online Fire and Extinguisher Awareness
This presentation is for people in low fire risk areas such as offices. There is a quiz to complete at the end of the unit. For those people who are at higher risk of fire, such as working with flammable material, hot work, workshops, and laboratories, training in use of equipment is recommended. This information will provide a sound basis for further training. There is a quiz to complete at the end of the unit.
Online ChemAlert Training
The ChemAlert eLearning system is a training tool for new users requiring a basic understanding of the ChemAlert system or for experienced users who require refresher training. Trainees can work through the modules at their own convenience and access them as often as required
Online Laser Safety Training
This online training is the first part of the Laser Safety in Research Course that is run by UWA Safety, Health and Wellbeing. It is designed to enable Class 3B and Class 4 lasers to be used, while supervised, before they attend the next scheduled Laser Safety in Research Course. Completing this online component does NOT allow you to use Class 3B or 4 Lasers unsupervised and it does NOT allow you to apply for a Class 3B or 4 laser license.
