UWA Safety Awards 2007

Nominations are invited for the following safety awards Group (Faculty, School, Section), Individual and Group Rehabilitation. All staff are encouraged to promote these awards within their work areas and to seek suitable nominations. Nomination to Safety and Health close on 21 September 2007 and the awards will be presented in October 2007. OSH for Managers and Supervisors - Wednesday 15th August

The next UWA Safety and Health for Managers and Supervisors course (1 day) will be held on Wednesday 15th August. This is essential training for all manager and supervisors. It provides knowledge of OSH legislation, principles, responsibilities and practices and their application at UWA. Safety Personnel Forum – Wednesday 22nd August

A Safety Personnel Forum will be held from 9 am – 1 pm on Wednesday 22nd August. All Safety and Health Representatives and School Safety Officers are requested to attend. Topics to be discussed include the roles of safety personnel, training, safety inspections and auditing, issuing of provisional improvement notices (PINS) and safety topic updates.

UWA Emergency Procedures Booklet

A new UWA Emergency procedures booklet has now been distributed. It contains sections on: General introduction, Emergency Evacuation, Fire/Smoke, Personal Injury, Personal Threat, Bomb Threat, Bomb Threat Checklist, Suspicious mail or Package, Radioisotope or Biohazard Spill, Chemical Hazard / Spill / Gas Leak and a section on People with Specific Needs. It is requested that these be carefully read when first received and that they be retained near telephones. Road Safety

The WA Road Safety Council is developing a new road safety strategy for the years 2008 to 2020 and is seeking community input. Members of the public are invited to participate in an online survey on this before 31st July: http://surveys.estill.net.au/roadsafety

University Safety Committee

The six Safety and Health Representatives appointed to serve on the USC from August 2007 to April 2008 are: Lindy Brophy, Peter Carlyon, Petra Fujita, Paul Hazzell, Graeme Nichols and Rod Robinson.

The USC next meets on 14th August 2007. Approved minutes from previous meetings are available from the Safety and Health website.
