A new user guide to the safe use of electrical equipment on UWA premises has been prepared. WorkSafe WA – Important Licensing Changes for High Risk Work

Persons who carry out scaffolding, dogging or rigging work, or operate a forklift, crane, hoist or pressure equipment are advised that new Australia-wide licensing rules apply to this ‘High Risk Work’. Licences issued under the new National Standard for Licensing Persons Performing High Risk Work replace the current National Certificates of Competency, and will allow such persons to work anywhere in Australia. The new licence is renewable every five years, and national regulations will be in place in July 2007. In Western Australia, the new standard will take effect from 1 October 2007.

Staffing Changes

Safety and Health farewell Dr Jeff Davis (Chemical and Fire Safety Officer) and Ms Kath Jones (Occupational Therapist) who are both about to commence employment at the WA Department of Consumer and Employment Protection. Jeff has been with Safety and Health since 2000 and Kath for the past 18 months. Their professionalism, technical skills, knowledge of the University and dedication will be greatly missed.

University Safety Committee

The USC last met on 12th June 2007 and next meets on 14th August 2007. Approved minutes from previous meetings are available from the Safety and Health website.
