University Safety Committee
The draft minutes of the last University Safety Committee meeting (held on
Tuesday 8th June) 2004 was emailed to UWA safety personnel on 17th June. 
The next meeting is on Tuesday 10th August.

Safety Seminar 2004

The UWA Safety Seminar is a great way to keep informed of legislative and
UWA specific safety related changes and topical issues (bullying, electrical
equipment testing and tagging, contractor safety, injury prevention).  This
year WorkCover WA will be providing a session on workers’ compensation. 
The Seminar is being held in the Murdoch Lecture Theatre, Arts building on
Wednesday 7th July.  The programme is available via ‘what’s new’. 

Annual Safety Awards 2004
Nominations are now being sought for the Annual UWA Safety Awards. 
There are three categories:  Group, Individual and Rehabilitation (Group). 
The purpose of the awards is to recognise best practice approaches and to 
share these with others within the University.  Each award winner receives
a certificate, book voucher and recognition throughout the University. 
Nominations close on 20th August 2004.  More information is available via
‘what’s new’

Safety Related Training: 
• Introductory Safety and Health Representative Course (5 days): From
   Monday 28th June
• Unsealed Radioisotope Handling Course (3 days): From Monday 5th July
• Safety Seminar (1 day): Wednesday 7th July
• Laboratory Safety Course (1 day):  Monday 12th July

Manual Handling Risk Management Plans
A reminder that areas with a history of manual handling injury since 2002
need to  develop a Manual Handling Risk Management Plan via a focus group
facilitated by Averil Riley (Occupational Therapist).  Refer:

2.  Safety Videos Available for Loan
S&H has a library of safety related videos which are available for loan to
either individuals or groups.  For a list of these refer to:

3. Ergonomic Equipment
S&H has a wide range of ergonomic equipment for free trial prior to purchase.
