Updated UWA Electrical Equipment Safety Checklist
Electrical hazards exist in almost every workplace. It is not only high voltage that causes electrocution – the smallest mistake can be fatal. Of the priority areas, electricity is the most common cause of death, accounting for about 11 percent of work-related deaths in Western Australian workplaces. People can be electrocuted by coming into contact with overhead wires, carrying out maintenance work on live electrical circuits, working with damaged electrical equipment, extension cords, plugs or sockets. This procedure has been developed to assist UWA employees in carrying out an inspection of their workplace to determine the risk of damage to electrical equipment in their normal working environment and the subsequent possibility of harm to users of the electrical equipment.
The Checklist: http://www.safety.uwa.edu.au/policies/electricalchecklist
This checklist is a record of inspection only and needs to be used in conjunction with the following:
Electrical Equipment Work Environment - To determine whether an environment is hostile or non hostile.
UWA Electrical Safety pamphlet – A user guide to the safe use of electrical equipment on UWA premises.
Creating A Non Hostile Electrical Work Environment  - To reduce the risk of damage to equipment.
