Safety and Health Newsletter – August 2009 UWA Safety Awards 2009 Nominations are invited for the following four Safety Awards - Group (Faculty, School, Section), Individual, Safety Leadership (Individual) and Safety Recognition. All staff are encouraged to promote these awards within their work areas and to seek suitable nominations. Further details can be obtained from: http://www.safety.uwa.edu.au/whats_new (July 2009) 2009 AUSA OHS Conference – Review and Presentation – 12 noon Friday 28th August The Australasian University Safety Association (AUSA) OHS Conference is the premier conference for tertiary sector OHS professionals and is held every two years. It was recently held at the University of Sydney from 7th – 10th July 2009. Mike Rafferty and Eddie Stoelwinder attended and will provide an overview of the conference. Eddie will also present his paper on ‘Three Lives Saved: UWA's Experience with Defibrillators’. This session will be from 12 noon – 1 pm on Friday 28th August, in the Don Volte & Nancy Keegan Case Study Room 101 (BCS101), UWA Business School. Chronic disease is insidious and in the majority of cases early warning signs or diagnosis is ignored. In Australia, Heart Disease is rampant and kills 50,000 people each year, while Type Two Diabetes claims 100,000 new cases annually. Prevention is at our fingertips and this insightful presentation will stir you to take control. All welcome.
