Nominations are invited for the following four Safety Awards - Group (Faculty, School, Section), Individual, Safety Leadership (Individual) and Safety Recognition. All staff are encouraged to promote these awards within their work areas and to seek suitable nominations. Nominations to Safety and Health close on Friday 2nd October and the awards will be presented during Safe Work Week Australia, 25th - 31st October 2009. The Australasian University Safety Association (AUSA) OHS Conference is the premier conference for tertiary sector OHS professionals and is held every two years. It was recently held at the University of Sydney from 7th – 10th July 2009. Mike Rafferty and Eddie Stoelwinder attended and will provide an overview of the conference. Eddie will also present his paper on ‘Three Lives Saved: UWA's Experience with Defibrillators’. This session will be from 12 noon – 1 pm on Friday 28th August, in the Don Volte & Nancy Keegan Case Study Room 101 (BCS101), UWA Business School. Shane Bilsborough, MSc (Health Nutrition) and Global Corporate Challenge Director will be presenting at UWA on ‘Small steps that could save your life’ from 1 pm to 2 pm on Monday 31st August 2009 in the School of Sports Science, Exercise & Health, John Bloomfield Lecture Theatre (Room 1.02). Chronic disease is insidious and in the majority of cases early warning signs or diagnosis is ignored. In Australia, Heart Disease is rampant and kills 50,000 people each year, while Type Two Diabetes claims 100,000 new cases annually. Prevention is at our fingertips and this insightful presentation will stir you to take control. All welcome. Essential introductory and refresher training for all wardens. Both the introductory (3 hours) course and the refresher course (1 hour) will be conducted on Monday 21st September.
