International SOS is an all-in-one provider to UWA for emergency support, assistance and travel monitoring for UWA travellers whilst overseas. They provide 24/7 "real time" independent, non-political advice/reports on security/health and related travel issues to all UWA travellers automatically, providing the travel is booked through one of the University's two approved Travel Service Providers (Campus Travel and Tertiary Travel). The system will enable International SOS to: • Contact travellers by mobile phone and/or email in the event of an emergency; • Collect data on travellers for travel insurance purposes; • Advise staff and students of security/medical travel warnings for specific regions; • Advise staff and students of regions for which insurance cover is not automatic and where staff need to apply for cover on a case-by-case basis. For information about this new service: http://www.finserv.uwa.edu.au/sp/travel/guide/ISOS UWA Travel Related Information: http://www.finserv.uwa.edu.au/sp/travel Critical Incident Exercise The University has recently developed a Critical Incident Management and Recovery Plan which provides the roles and responsibilities, resources and procedures to be used should there be an incident that threatens the people, operations, assets, environment or long-term prospects and reputation of the University. Events considered in the plan include natural disasters, outbreaks of disease, major fires or explosions, serious acts of violence and prolonged loss of utilities. A simulated critical incident was conducted at UWA in June 2009 to help staff to prepare for the real thing, should it eventuate.
