UWA Safety Awards 2009
Nominations are invited for the following four Safety Awards - Group (Faculty, School,
Section), Individual, Safety Leadership (Individual) and Safety Recognition. All staff are
encouraged to promote these awards within their work areas and to seek suitable
nominations. Nominations to Safety and Health close on Friday 2nd October and the awards
will be presented on Monday 26th October. Further details can be obtained from:
http://www.safety.uwa.edu.au/whats_new/annual_safety_awards_information_2009

The UWA Safety Awards are a great opportunity for work areas to review the elements and
achievements of their safety efforts.  The individual awards are also a great opportunity to
recognise and encourage the contributions made by individual staff in creating and
maintaining high safety standards, which are an essential element in reducing the likelihood
and severity of incidents and injuries.

and resources; Managers and supervisors - specific OSH responsibilities and Occupational
safety and health management systems.  This workshop consists of two modules:

Ergonomic Assessments - New On Line Booking System
Safety & Health Occupational Therapists (and Ergonomic Advisers employed on a casual
basis) provide ergonomic assessments to UWA staff and post graduate students, provided
that the student has been assigned dedicated office space.  Typically staff or students contact
Safety and Health via phone or email to arrange an assessment.  To improve management of
work load and prioritize the provision of assessments, we have instigated an on-line
Ergonomic Assessment Request form.  The form needs to be completed and submitted via
the Safety and Heath website, and a Safety and Health staff member will then make contact
to arrange a time for the assessment.

A lot of the equipment that is prescribed is now readily available through Corporate Express:

be active and aim for at least 10,000 steps per day. Participants went on a virtual tour of the
world with the more steps taken then the greater the number of destinations visited.  UWA
participants did well with our daily step average per person (8,822 steps) being ahead of our
