Mental Health in the Workplace

Managers and supervisors can seek assistance with:

·        Managing work performance of a staff member due to suspected or know mental health problem. Contact:

-UWA Counselling and Psychological Services (provide a "Manager Assistance" program - a confidential telephone counselling service for managers and supervisors) Ph: 6488 2423 

·        Ascertaining "fitness for duty" of a staff member (e.g. recently diagnosed or returning from leave). Contact:

-Senior Occupational Therapist in Safety and Health Ph: 6488 2784

·        Managing staff affected by another staff member with a mental health problem. Contact:
-Equity and Diversity Office Ph: 6488 3873 

·        General concerns about the health of a staff member who you suspect or know has a mental health problem. Contact:
-Senior Occupational Therapist Ph: 6488 2784

Individual staff members experiencing mental health problems can seek assistance with:

·        Equity issues - for example, if you are experiencing a mental health problem and feel that you have been discriminated against or harrassed. Contact:

·        Managing at work or discussing issues with your supervisor or manager. Contact:

For anyone interested in learning about mental health issues and how to provide appropriate assistance and support to others:

·        Mental Health First Aid is a 12-hour training course designed to teach people how to recognise the symptoms of mental health problems, provide initial help to someone experiencing a mental health problem before professional help is obtained, and how to take appropriate action if a crisis situation arises.
