Life Balance: Information

The University has a number of initiatives in place to encourage life balance. These include:

·        Job Sharing
Job sharing is a system of work where two people take the responsibility for one full-time position, dividing work, pay, holidays and other benefits between them according to the time they work. It plays an important role in ensuring the University's employment practices are flexible and family-friendly.

·       Annual Leave
University employees are entitled to, and encouraged to take, annual recreation leave, to assist them in achieving life balance.

·      Parental Leave
The University offers generous leave provisons and other entitlements for staff who are, who are about to become, or are planning to become, parents.

·       Staff Development
The University is committed to optimising opportunities for all staff to improve their levels of skills and knowledge to improve the quality of workplace productivity and staff satisfaction. Individual staff members are encouraged to seek appropriate developmental opportunities both within the University and externally.

·       Equity and Diversity
Equity and Diversity Services promotes and supports UWA's vision to provide an inclusive environment for all staff, students and the broader community. It aims to create an environment which  celebrates diversity and is free from all forms of discrimination and harassment.

·       Equal Opportunity
The University has numerous policies and procedures in place to promote equal opportunity for employees and to ensure its structures are free from direct or indirect discrimination on the grounds of sex, marital status or pregnancy, race, age, sexual orientation, gender history, religious or political beliefs, impairment, family responsibility or family status.

Work life balance is a diverse term that encompasses many aspects of employees working arrangements and how work interacts with family and lifestyle commitments. This Government of Western Australia site provides information on topics including work and family, mature age employment, workplace flexibility, pay equity, working hours, work-life publications.

Work-Related Stress
Work-related stress can be caused by a wide range of factors and can lead to negative health consequence if not addressed. This links provides information on work-related stress, its possible causes, consequences and some self-help tips.
