Group safety award
The group safety award acknowledges best practice approaches and achievements in work health and safety management by faculties, schools or sections and affiliates.
Evaluation takes into account the different circumstances of the nominated areas and the extent and significance of the systems approach and safety achievements. The five elements and standards from the WorkSafe Plan are used to assess nomination in terms of management commitment, planning, consultation, hazard management and training. Individual safety award
The Individual Safety Award acknowledges outstanding contributions by individual employees in establishing and maintaining high standards of occupational safety and health activities and achievements within the University and affiliates.
The contributions to workplace health and safety may be at a university, faculty, school, or section level and have occurred or were maintained since the commencement of the previous calendar year. Evaluation will take into account the different circumstances of the work areas.

Safety leadership award
The safety leadership award is to encourage the recognition of heads, managers and supervisors for their efforts to improve or sustain high health and safety standards either at a business unit or at a corporate level.

Safety recognition award
The safety recognition award does not have any specified criteria and may be for groups or individuals. Nominations may be made to recognise the efforts of current safety personnel or for a recently completed safety related activity or project.

Nomination process
Nominations for 2019 are required by Tuesday 15th October 2019 in order to allow the awards to be presented on 6th November. Nomination for the Group award must address the WorkSafe Plan standards and be less than 3,000 (five pages). Nominations for all other awards must be less than 1,500 words (three pages) and may be prepared by the person being nominated or any other University or affiliate employee(s). It is recommended that the person being nominated endorse the submission. Additional attachments to nominations are permitted.

Selection panel
The awards are decided by the following (or their nominees):
- The Chair (University Safety Committee)
- Director (Human Resources)
- Director (Campus Management)
- Associate Director (UWA Safety, Health and Wellbeing)
- Senior Consultant, Injury Management (UWA Safety, Health and Wellbeing)
Additional information may be sought as required. All heads and representatives (or their nominees) of the nominated sections and nominated individuals will be invited to a special function at which the award will be presented.
